School of Social Work Award Announcement

On March 21st Dr. Borrell was able to award the I.J. Shapiro and A.J. Borrell Award at the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work. This honored award is for the Best MSSW Student Paper in Geriatric Mental Health Services. The I.J. Shapiro and A.J. Borrell award was established in honor of Dr. Borrell’s father in law and father from which came his inspiration and passion that started Senior Psychcare, in order to serve seniors with their psychiatric and psychological needs in nursing homes.

Last year the award winning paper was on “Creativity in Psychotherapy with Seniors” by Delilah Dominguez. This year there were two individuals that shared the honor, “Improving Mental Health Outcomes for Latino Elders” by Maya Conlon-Kremer and “Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training” written by Megan Nikolai and Teresa R. Smith.

“Under the care of Leo J. Borrell, M.D. since December 2001, I have seen a remarkable improvement in my mother’s condition. She is responding dramatically to the new regiment Dr. Borrell has prescribed”
